BatteryESS Value Chain CDD Project

This Commercial Due Diligence (CDD) project aimed to assess competitiveness and market potential across three core business areas—Energy Storage Systems (ESS), EV chargers, and Plasma Power Supplies (PPS)—within the renewable energy and power systems sectors. We reviewed the target company’s current technological capabilities and business strategies, providing concrete guidance to secure future growth and competitive advantages.

Driven by government policies and a global shift toward clean energy, the renewable energy and power systems market continues to expand. In Korea, the ESS market is poised for rapid long-term growth, supported by increasing needs for grid stabilization and renewable energy integration. The EV charger segment, though still in its early stages, is expected to grow in tandem with surging electric vehicle adoption. Meanwhile, PPS plays a critical role in display and semiconductor manufacturing processes, where technological barriers to entry remain high.

ESS (Energy Storage Systems)
ESS solutions are now essential for grid stability. The target company holds a moderate share in the domestic ESS market, leveraging a track record of zero fire incidents to validate its reliability and technological strength. Building on past project performance, the company could strengthen its competitive position in government-led grid stabilization projects. However, improving profitability in ongoing projects and advancing its Power Management System (PMS) will be key. Overseas expansion may hinge on initial success in Southeast Asia.

EV Chargers and Charging Modules
With the rapid growth of the EV market, EV chargers present a significant opportunity. The target company is developing 400kW ultra-fast chargers and 60kW charging modules while exploring international markets. Mid-power chargers (20–50kW) may offer greater volume potential. In the U.S., the implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) could open doors through collaborations with local partners, but achieving further technical enhancements and cost efficiencies is essential to strengthening competitiveness.

PPS (Plasma Power Supply)
PPS is a critical component in display and semiconductor production, but high technical entry barriers and entrenched supplier relationships hinder market entry. While the target company currently supplies some PPS products to display manufacturers, entering the semiconductor scrubber PPS market poses even greater challenges due to rigorous customer approval processes and stringent technical requirements.

Conclusions and Next Steps
This CDD confirmed the target company’s technological strengths and growth potential in renewable energy and power systems. However, strategic refinements are needed to enhance profitability across all business areas. Key priorities include advancing PMS and EV charging module technologies, developing a more detailed PPS market entry strategy, and pursuing ESS expansion with a focus on Southeast Asia.

By addressing these challenges, the company is positioned to establish a sustainable growth platform and strengthen its competitive footing in the evolving energy landscape.
